Who

Dr OOI KEE BENG was born and raised in Penang, Malaysia. He spends his time writing, writing, writing. He is:

  • Senior Fellow at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies;
  • Visiting Associate Professor at the Department of Pubic and Social Administration at Hong Kong City University;
  • Adjunct Associate Professor at the Department of Southeast Asian Studies at National University of Singapore, and;
  • Editor of the Penang Economic Monthly.

His books include the award-winning The Reluctant Politician: Tun Dr Ismail and His Time (2006); The Right to Differ: A Biograaphical Sketch of Lim Kit Siang (2011); In Lieu of Ideology: An Intellectual Biography of Goh Keng Swee (2010); March 8: Eclipsing May 13 (2008); Malaya’s First Year at the United Nations (2009); Lost in Transition: Malaysia under Abdullah (2007) and Between UMNO and a Hard Place (2010).
